We got the call that he was out of surgery at 6:30. We had to wait until 8 pm to see Dr. Morales. He was able to tell us what took longer than was expected. When he separated the valve to create two, there are supposed to be 2 muscles for each valve. On Justin's left side there was only one. That causes a tightening and constricting of the valve. Dr. Morales cheated the splice a bit to the right side to give it some more tissue. It COULD be an issue later, which would require valve replacement, but they don't like doing that to an infant. He feels like it was a good fix, and now he's not worried. Dr. Morales said that it is something that needs to be closely monitored.
We were able to get to see Justin at 8:30 or so. He looks FANTASTIC! We were able to see a picture of a friend's child after his surgery last year, so we knew what to expect. I have a picture, but I want you to be prepared. It actually looks worse in the picture than in person. (Cindi confirms this.) The nurse explained all of the lines and what everything does. He is only on one medication, but they expect to add another one before we leave. The breathing tube should come out tomorrow, and the rest of the lines slowly after that. We are tired and going to get some rest. The nurses say he will need us tomorrow and to get our rest now!

What a big strong boy! I am so proud of your little fighter. How many times have I stood beside a bed with breathing tubes, feeding tubes, IVs, beeping machines etc. I feel your exhaustion, frustration, thankfullness, hope, - you guys are amazing! I pray for strength for all of you and quick healing for Justin! Thanks for all the updates for those of us who couldn't be there to hold you guys.
What a trooper! I wanted so badly to stay longer this morning -- thanks so much for keeping us updated with blogs and phone calls throughout today. Praying you get some deep rest tonight; you must be absolutely fileted after a day like this one!

So glad that everything went well! We were checking email and your blog constantly yesterday. Thank you for the updates. We are praying for a speedy recovery and complete healing of Justin's heart. Please give a big kiss (or several!) to that sweet little cousin of ours.

How sweet to breathe relief knowing the surgery is done and Justin has triumphed! God protects and blesses. So wonderful that the healing can now get started. Answer to so many, many prayers.
Wow! I know you said that it looks worse than what it is, but that has to be hard to see anyway. He is such a trooper and to know that everything went well is such a God given blessing. We send kisses to sweet justin and to the rest of the family. You all continue to be in my prayers.
We said a prayer for guys today in class. You were missed and Justin looks great! We are so grateful that everything went smoothly. Thanks for keeping us updated!
